Ken Herfst

After serving in Guatemala for over twenty years in various capacities, such as church planter, Bible Translation supervisor, seminary professor, pastor and president of a Christian Development Association, Ken and Jackie moved back to Canada in 2015. Ken divides his time between Redeemer University as Assistant Professor of Ministry and First Hamilton CRC as a pastor. Jackie and Ken have five married children living in four different countries. Thankfully, two of their daughters live nearby and they regularly see seven of their nine grandchildren.

An avid reader, Ken continues to wrestle with key theological ideas and is particularly drawn to understanding how the Kingdom of God intersects with our daily lives. As a follower of Benedictine spirituality, Ken strives for a balance between work, prayer and study and seeks to be shaped by ancient practices that teach that Christ should be preferred above everything.

In times of leisure, an appreciation for music, birdwatching and breadmaking as well as the occasional dabbling in watercolour fill his life with delight. Oh, and he loves his espressos.
